The Art Of Layering: Fashion Tips – Fashion is a realm you can play with, without limits, just like an artist’s painting on a blank canvas. We are a blank canvas, artists, clothes are art itself! How beautiful does this sound?

It can seem overwhelming to start and create layers for an outfit, but I promise it’s super simple and fun to create! Here are 5 simple tips to turn a flat, boring outfit into a MASTERPIECE:

The Art Of Layering: Fashion Tips

1. Start with the BASICS! The beauty of basics works wonders when layering pieces. Everyone has the BASICS – pants, long sleeves, denim or skirts. Once you’ve found your base, layering starts here! Start with your basics by layering jackets, leather, blazers, sheer tops and cardigans. Okay, you get the point :] Most importantly, add your own style and touch to this part of the layering; personal style is essential in creating masterpieces! <3

2. Use a monochromatic design to conquer the ART of smoothing by using the same COLOR palette in your layering, making the process much more seamless. It also adds elegance to your style of the day!

3. Mix textures! The secret sauce to creating depth in your outfit! Mixing textures may seem daunting and intimidating at first. I personally love this and have recently done this with my own artwork when designing an outfit! Layering different textures gives your clothes a unique touch of depth! For example, try combining silks and sweaters with jeans! This fascinates the eyes of others! Try this! Have fun and play :]

4. Use your accessories; accessories can be so downplayed in layering, why? Because it can make or break a layered look – it’s true! BUT when you add some simple accessories to the finish, it can really enhance the layered look! Think a simple bold belt or a simple scarf!

5. Channel your y2k look: You know I had to talk about the y2k layered vibe! Why yyyy? Because y2k is known for all the funky layers! A perfect example: skirts with pants! :] Channel your y2k look, ladies and gentlemen!

If you’re new to fashion, remember to have fun with the process, don’t take it so seriously, and let yourself try new things to find what works best for your unique style! If there’s one word that immediately comes to mind when it comes to fall/winter fashion – it’s layering . And while it may seem easy, I think there’s a definite art to leveling that isn’t always easy to master.

Layering is also a key concept in minimalist style. It allows for creativity, but also practicality, especially at this time of year when we have to be equally prepared for freezing temperatures outside and rather warm temperatures inside.

The neutral color palette typical of the minimal style also works well in layers – we can play with subtle contrasts or use a single color as well.

And finally, the minimalist style is often a mix of simple and unique cuts, different silhouettes and textures, which together can lead to classic but interesting combinations.

Chic City Outfits That Capture That Easy Summer Feeling

Dressing head-to-toe in one color (or slightly different shades) usually only works with different textures and fabrics that add depth and dimension to the clothes. Otherwise, it can look too flat or overwhelming. Try mixing heavier and softer textures such as wool, silk, cotton, leather, or add a different top layer as an intermediate layer.

Who says outerwear always has to be the last layer? Blazers, coats, jackets, but even leather jackets can work just as well as mid-layers. Just try to choose a relatively lighter piece and pair it with an oversized jacket.

Layered sweaters look cool and are also quite practical (double warmth), but we have to pay attention to individual items. If they’re all too heavy, our look is Michelin-esque and less effortless French style. Try combining lighter and looser knits or different lengths and colors to make sure the layers stand out nicely.

Oversized wool or cashmere scarves are the best tools for creating the illusion of layers, even if you’re not wearing many. The bigger the better – drape it over the shoulders or neck, create a silhouette with a belt or just let it flow down and flow around the body. If it’s the same shade as your jacket or blazer, it adds depth to the layering, if it’s different, it adds an interesting contrast.

A white shirt is probably the ultimate layering job. It’s neutral, goes with almost everything and is very versatile. Tucked in, loose, under a dress, blouse, jacket or blazer, slim and fitted or oversized – the possibilities are almost endless.

Although minimalist style is usually associated with a simple, neutral color palette rather than bold patterns, that doesn’t mean they should be left out of your wardrobe entirely. I think one subtle pattern that matches the color palette of your outfit can look really good, especially as a middle layer.

Playing around with different length sleeves is an easy way to add some layering to an outfit. Pair a shorter-sleeved jacket with a sweater or roll up the sleeves and show off a different color or texture. Layers Y’all! I love them, they are a light travelers best friend. Indeed, they are and we’ll tell you why.

If you comply with the packing restrictions for hand luggage, you will pack light knitwear. A light top or sweater alone may not be enough to keep you warm, but layering with another thin sweater will give you a little more warmth. Read our guide to cold weather layering for a more detailed explanation of how to functionally layer in cold weather.

This is a better option than packing one big knit because it only has one use in really cold weather. Two light knits still provide warmth, but can be more versatile as they can be worn separately and combined with other travel outfits. It’s just simple #traveloutfitmath.

Layers help you dress for changes in weather during your day of travel. When you leave your hotel or hostel in the morning with plans for the day, you want to be prepared for any possible temperature changes, and layers help with that.

Temperatures can warm up throughout the day and if you’re out into the evening, you can simply stash a light layer in your bag and bring it back out at night if needed. Or if you’re traveling in a warm climate with cool nights, you’ll want to keep a light cardi handy over your summer travel essentials.

If you are layering for fashion, the rule of thumb is that you layer with three pieces (top, bottom and third piece). Third pieces can be non-clothing like scarves or necklaces if you don’t want to overdo the layers.

Style Tips To Look Slimmer (but Why Should You?)

Have you ever wondered why some stores have sales staff that just look amazing and you can’t figure out why? Well, it’s probably layering, and some stores even require staff to follow the 3-piece layering rule.

Let’s do the gas math quickly. One bulky blouse can only be worn with any packed underwear and one outer garment. There aren’t many options.

The two lightweight layerable parts can be exchanged for other tops and layered parts in your travel wardrobe, thus greatly multiplying your outfit selection. Base layers can always be used alone.

If you want to add color to your neutral travel wardrobe, you can add it with your layers. Top neutral base layers with mid or outer layers with color or pattern or both. Or you can use colorful base layers with neutral colored layers on top. The choice is really up to you and your style.

Winter Layering: The Winter Style Guide

Either way, layers allow you to change the look of your trip. You can also choose whether you want to keep your layers monochromatic or in the same shades of one color. Vary the texture a bit if you go this route.

Packing light for multiple climates is one of the most difficult trips to prepare for. Layers allow you to still pack light and travel comfortably in multiple climates. If you’re traveling between cold and warm weather, the most important thing is a good lightweight wool base layer that will instantly winterize any travel outfit.

You’ll also want a versatile 8 piece core capsule and mini capsule for whatever climate you’re traveling to. For more information on that, read my guide to planning a travel capsule mix.

Not so my friend. The key is to stick to light knits and avoid bulky and bulky materials. Also, start with a thin base coat so that your shape is still a little obvious, but not completely exposed. Another mass discharge option
