How To Style Your Wardrobe For Every Season – I know I’ve been promising you this blog for a while and here it is finally, although it’s an abridged version because I’m sure there’s a book in it 😂 But before I start if you want to comment please click on the title now and it will open with the comments section at the end.

Back in January, I introduced the idea of SAVVY STYLE with this blog. I like to think of it as a smart, practical, creative and inspiring belief system to achieve and create a good feeling of stylish web life. This is a summary of what I have learned to focus on in “my life” and with “my style” since I turned 50 so that I “feel good”. And in it there are 5 pillars (which have been changed): Closing the purchase and sale Thinking and getting old. And “designing your closet” is an idea I got from THINKING about the WEARING and SHOPPING blogs, as well as the blogs I wrote on RELOVE. (In fact, come to think of it, most of the blogs I’ve written have had some influence 🤔) and that feels like the purpose of my little hobby blog (besides leaving something for my girls to read. age) is , which is creatively organizing a closet that, after 55 years, I still enjoy and feel good in 🙏🏻

And what makes me feel so passionate about sharing this is that if this hobby stylist can do it, anyone can! What you wear, how you shop and most importantly how you feel about both of you! And it’s practical, attractive and affordable, where I didn’t spend at all! In fact, my “spending” is what started me in the mess. A mindless collection of pandemonium of “add to cart” moments and excited acceptance of “impressive gifts” (those ridiculously bought/received to “make me feel good”) over the past couple of years has been what it’s all about. , which made me fall to the ground for the last time. October and thinking… I have so much stuff!!! So much so that it confused my style and generally overwhelmed me with what I “should” wear VS “like to wear”. So I just took a deep breath and decided to take back control of my wardrobe and own my spending/receiving habits by SAYING NO to both for a while to focus on what I love to wear and re-wear . And since then, I’ve “sorted out my closet” and created my dream wardrobe, where I always have something I love to wear! And that’s about it for how I did it in the blogpost….

Easy Tips To Update Your Wardrobe Each Season

I cannot repeat this enough! Most of us have an idea of what colors look good on us through the way they make us feel and the compliments we get from others. I have always loved the olive/khaki color and bought it for that reason. (So please be sure to let others know when you see them dressed in their best 😉). But until I started thinking about how I wanted to feel good in whatever color I wore, I was stuck. So when Victoria Nelson, an image consultant (also known on IG as stylepixie_consulting) offered to give me a color analysis last year, I jumped at it! I wrote here. But what I’ve learned is that there’s more to it than just wearing a certain color that goes with it, it’s how you “match” your colors according to the contrast level of your skin/hair/eyes. , to put what you decide. it makes YOU look good, not just your clothes. And knowing all of this allowed me to work with time, limit what I had in my closet, and explore the possibilities of how I could improve existing clothes to what I needed when shopping. to look for and perhaps receive as gifts.

So if you want to look great in every color you wear, I encourage you to look it up yourself or with help. It might be a little $$$ if you source, but over time, the investment will save costs and change lives……just a thought. But you can do a lot of research on your own, and I found Donna Cameron’s book Color: The Secret to Creating a Sustainable Wardrobe to be a great starting point. In fact, on this platform, You Tube and Instagram, many resources and color experts offer their advice. And in case you’re wondering, here are mine:

And while I’ve organized my current closet based on a few of my favorites. I love that there are “new to me” colors that I want to explore….

Again, a personal stylist can help you with this OR you can do your own research and follow your gut. Although sometimes the latter can take longer. I’ve been a follower of What Not to Wear and Trinny Woodall for 20 years, so I’ve had a lot of experience analyzing my shape. I am a triangle, a pear. My shoulders are smaller than my hips. My trunk is also longer than my legs. I have a waist. I am young. There is a very old book by Trinny and Suzanne Constantine called The Body Shape Bible that I learned most of the “how to dress your shape” tricks from. And knowing them is how I dress makes me feel good even after all these years, some people may not agree but when I follow these simple guidelines it really makes choosing clothes so much easier!

And pay attention to the tips about necks, hems and hems, it can help with accessories! And when it comes to rings, I find it useful.

Although, tbt, even with all these tips, I’m still ahead and sometimes I fall for the NQR thing, only to find out why it never wears 😂

Knowing the right colors and styles, it’s time to decide on your outfit. It may seem daunting, but if you accept that it will take more than an afternoon and set a deadline that works for you, it can be done methodically. You can start by season and category.

I started with dresses in the summer. I had about 60! And the things hanging on my rails didn’t wear out that much, so I pulled them out one by one, tried them on, and then sorted them into three key sticks based on whether the color and style suited me: KEEP, ALTER , CLEAN. .

KEEPERS were washed, ironed, buttoned, etc. hung. In hangers that fit! I am very excited about this and all mine are in natural wood. I want my Curated Closet to reflect the feeling you get when you walk into a fancy boutique, whether it’s high end or thrift! My goal is for it to be where I go to shop every day. And you know that amazing feeling you get when you try on something you love in a store?

ALTER Bridge is just that. Dresses that fit in shape and color but need some tailoring (or your own) like polka dot skirts. Many of my maxi dresses were too long for my 163 cm frame, so I took them. I fit the midi. Some were very full so I invested in removing the volume. Some are too loose so I changed the darts and belts. I’ll admit it’s not cheap to pay Australian tailors to do this, but if the item fits me and I love it, I want every one of them to fit perfectly. Think of it as wardrobe couture 😉 Because I know from experience, the better you feel in an outfit, the more it gets worn! I also took all my white clothes (which is not my best color) and experimented with dyeing them. And not all changes have to be done at once, in fact, I still have half a basket of changes from last summer to tackle this spring…. gotta get to it 😉 But what I can say is that when I focus on wearing what I already have and changing what I love, it really keeps me from buying new for a month or two does not stop It’s also the pause I needed to reset how I felt about what I had and chose to wear, which has since allowed me to think about it and what I wanted to do. what my makeup closet should look like.

My PURGE money is divided between gifts (to family and friends), sales and donations. In this pile, I put clothes that definitely didn’t fit, didn’t like, or didn’t fit! And please don’t keep things in your organized closet and “one day I’ll get there” – they just make you feel bad, if you can’t get rid of one or two, put them somewhere else.
