Office Fashion: Professional And Stylish

By | August 4, 2026

Office Fashion: Professional And Stylish – I’ll be honest here, I haven’t worn a suit in years. My 9-5 corporate life lasted about 5 years. My first job out of college was as a revenue accountant at Norfolk Southern. It was a traditional corporate job because I had to wear a suit every day.

My closet is stocked with Express and Loft. Super stylish, affordable office wear, my go-to for such pieces to this day.  And at Gin Day, a charity event I had to pay to attend, I was reprimanded for my skinny jeans.

But don’t worry, the poor executives who hate me wear them anyway. I hated it. They hated me. It was mutual.

What To Wear To Work: Work Outfits For The Office

After a few months of interviewing, while working on my pathetic blog and interning at a high-end online designer store, I ended up working as an account manager for another clothing line. I loved him more every day.

A relaxed office environment and culture combined with working for a brand that I truly love and wear is a dream come true. I worked there for four years and worked my way up to the southeast sales position. Even with regular sales meetings with clients, I was still quite comfortable in my work clothes.

We wore jeans, sneakers, and our own tee shirts (they really make the best tees and sweatshirts and still wear them all the time). So I stocked up on collared shirts, pants, and pencil skirts shortly after investing in everything else. Now 7 years later, these pieces either don’t fit me anymore, are out of style, or I just don’t need them anymore.

Now that I’ve been blogging full-time for a few years, I have a collection of casual tees, jeans and dresses. Of course that’s fine by me, but you, the reader, have spoken and I’ve listened. So many of you have been asking for 9-5 office casual work outfit ideas.

Still comfortable enough, relaxed and stylish. Because I’m here about the hard stuff. Fashion doesn’t have to be messy or uncomfortable.  You can easily rock an effortless outfit with just a few touches here and there.

When it comes to what to wear to the office, I want to show you how to effortlessly uplift, feel stylish and easily without breaking the bank.

I realize the latter is a bit subjective, but you really can’t go wrong with a deal at Express and LOFT. Still, to this day, I go to those two stores and find clothes that don’t cost a lot. Bonuses are great too.

One of my favorites for casual work wear is this column top from Express. Don’t buy them full price friends, they always sell out at some point.

But these are probably the best pants to grab for the office right now. They come in dozens of colors and are super flattering. A moderate rise is perfect, not too high, not too low.

I often say that with jeans in many of my outfit posts, you can easily swap jeans for a 9-5 look for smoking pants. Take this dress for example.

But often it’s hard to imagine, and I get it. Here’s one of my go-to outfits with denim, but swapping out the pants for these gorgeous skinny jeans. Is it easy?

One of my favorite ways to easily dress it up or dress it down is to wear it as a casual work outfit. This is also why I love speedy column pants. It has the same silhouette as my favorite jeans, and it’s really easy to switch up with a casual top or pair the pants with a pair of jeans.

Always add a flare when making jeans so that it pulls together and still works properly. If your office doesn’t allow jeans, switch clothes to columnist! It’s a great way to mix and match!

Tip: If you find a pair of pants you really like, buy two pairs. I used to flatten one and wait for the other one to tap. It made dressing super easy. Hemming is super cheap at $5!

Dresses are a great way to pull together a casual work outfit. I love a good midi skirt length, it’s perfect for the office but also trendy.

For a more casual feel, add a coat if your office allows it. Add a bootie or colorful heels to make it feel more casual and less bulky! This long sleeve blouse is just perfect. Pair with loafers for a more relaxed and comfortable look!

Revamp Your Office Wardrobe: Elevate Your Style!

One of my favorite silhouettes is my wide leg crop top. Whether they’re for those really casual work days, or a more polished fabric than a white cardigan, these are always a great choice! Top them off with a button-down shirt, sweater, or even a turtleneck. They are really versatile and I must say, super comfortable!

I love a good jumper and I am 100% in love with the ones from Madewell (Jugger). But they are really great! They look like clothes, but they’re not. For casual work wear with a jumpsuit, it also feels cool and street-style, but perfect for the office.

Keep your length in mind, just like your dress and skirt. Always keep things on or near your knees. For proper office style, don’t wear a suit, jumper or crop top.

I also feel that everything below goes well with the jacket. Don’t do that. Try using white bulbs or solid colors in the summer. Adding a bracelet really ties it all together. If your office is casual, a blazer can usually work depending on your outfit.

As many companies are back in the office, now is the time to rely on your personal style and wear those great outfits to work! I love dressing up and sharing my style with my colleagues. It’s funny to think that the people I talk to every day often have no idea what I’m wearing.

Dressing professionally may sound boring, but workwear these days isn’t all about frills and buttons. You can really insert your personal style. Edgy can be interpreted in many ways, but my version includes the following principles, lots of neutrals and visually interesting outfits. I’m also loving the elevated basic trend right now for a nice professional style.

I often describe my style as classic editorial because I love simple styles, but with a bit of a twist. Neutrals are my style and I love a piece with funky hardware. If I had the money when they were popular, I would have owned a Burberry trench coat with shoulder straps in the early 2010s. If you love a professional look, read how I took this style and made it work in the office!

Neutrals are the best way to dazzle. Darker neutrals tend to look tougher and more attractive. However, black and white aren’t your only options, there are different perceptions of edgy these days, so who am I to tell you not to wear color! For this post, I’d say stick to the guns and lean towards neutrals or dark colors when aiming for your style carnage. Black is obvious, but brown, tan, or even a monochromatic look can go awry depending on how you pair it, and of course, you can never go wrong with a classic white button-down.

Think about printing! Most of the time, prints are associated with loud or bright colors, but prints like animal prints come in neutrals, such as leopard print or a few of the snakeskin ones I’ve shared below. You can always add a contrasting color like a pencil skirt underneath for a more colorful edge. Just look for more muted colors if you don’t stick to neutrals.

My friend told me that I belonged on the streets of NYC in my look below, and I was so excited because that was my goal in dressing up!
