They work for every body type, creating an hourglass body shape look. By cinching in at the waist, they show off a narrow waist or create a waist if you’re straighter up and down.

How To Style A Wrap Dress

There are many different styles of wrap dresses. From knee length to a longer dress that hits below the knee or ankle. From lace dresses perfect for special occasions to linen and knitwear for work or everyday wear.

You can wear linen and knitwear in so many different ways! Dress them up with strappy sandals or pointed toe heels for date night or a special occasion. Or dress them up with slides, leather flip-flops or even white sneakers for a casual vibe.

If you’re planning to dress for a more conservative work setting with pumps and a matching blazer, choose neutrals and solid colors like navy and black.

A black wrap dress is a great choice for very formal occasions, paired with strappy heels, dangling earrings and a necklace.

Choose a bright color, stripes, animal print or polka dots for a night or daytime event like a wedding or baby shower.

Is This The Ultimate Wrap Dress?

In this post, if you’re struggling with how to tie your clothes or avoid being noticed, I’ll share how to tie a dress and keep it closed. If you’re looking for new ways to make it, I’ve got you covered. Plus, I’ll show you my favorite dress and 12 ways to wear it.

If you are new to wraps, you may have a hard time figuring out how to work a wrap when you go to try on it. How to tie a tie waist so that it “ties” properly.

Wear the dress as you would a long cardigan sweater, tucking your arms through the sleeves and leaving the front flaps open.

Take the tie on the left side of the dress and pull it through the hole. The left flap of the garment will be pulled tightly against your body.

Fold the right side of the garment over the left flap of the garment. Pull firmly to keep it closed.

Wrap the long tie through the hole in the back of the dress so that it meets the correct tie when the dress is closed. Tie the two in a bow on the left side of the dress. Adjust the dress so that the top and bottom are comfortable, creating a V-neck.

If you’re worried about creating a show situation by showing too much cleavage or leaving the hem of your dress exposed, a simple safety pin at the bust or mid-thigh can keep the wrap closed. Double-sided duct tape is another easy way to keep it closed. Just place it where the top of the dress goes.

Want another way to avoid showing too much skin on your bust line? Wear a fitted shirt or vest underneath. It’s perfect for the tank top to show through the dress.

Women’s Wrap Dresses

I’ve found that the best pleated dresses are sewn-in-place pleats to get the shape benefits of this dress without having to worry about undoing. Ties are for decoration only. In this post, I’m wearing a side-stitched fixed wrap midi dress from H&M.

I absolutely love this dress!  What can I say, I don’t suck for stripes! The dress is available in 5 colors.

You’ve got to love how an outfit can create an effortless look that’s easily put together. Just add some shoes and a bag and you’re done. This striped dress is a keeper! No matter what color your dress is, all you need is brown slides and a brown bag and your look is on point.

If you want to wear your wrap dress to work in the summer and some closed toe shoes, a black flat dress with a black hat adds a touch of glam to the outfit.

If you love your heels, wear ankle strap sandals to draw attention to them. Adding black sandals and a black bag gives this outfit a chic look.

If you want to wear your rolled-up outfit to work, wear a black blazer. This double-breasted black blazer is an outfit I turn to time and time again for a sharp and tailored look.

Wear this outfit with block heel slides or with pointed toe heels like I did in the next look.

This dress can easily be dressed up for a more formal occasion by wearing it with a pair of strappy sandals and a necklace, or a pair of earrings like I’m wearing here.

Here is a great business look. Pair your wrap dress with a pair of flesh-colored pointed-toe flats. If you’re trying to avoid wearing a pair of heels, pointed toe flats are the best way to create a more elevated look. They also make your legs look longer.

This is the kind of outfit that makes me think of a trip to Paris. Nothing says French style more than stripes, espadrille wedges and a basket market bag.

For a more casual look, pair it with white sneakers and a denim jacket. Or dress it up for a night out like I did in the next look.

Pair your wrap dress with a leather jacket and a pair of strappy sandals for an edgy look. A leather jacket is one of the statement pieces that make an outfit.

A classic trench coat is a great option that offers a suitable look on a cool day. My general rule of thumb for pairing a long coat with a long dress is to make sure the dress is no shorter than the coat or more than a few inches longer than the coat. This prevents you from creating a weird two-tiered effect with extra clothes hanging around.

Raffia slides with a metal buckle and raffia clutch are a great way to give this look a summer vibe. The metal buckle on the raffia slides gives them a classy look. It also makes this a dress you can wear to a baby or bridal shower during the day, when you don’t feel like wearing heels.

Wondering how you can wear a wrap dress for the fall and winter season? When you need to wear long sleeves, layer with a black turtleneck and top with an oversized sweater and ankle boots or knee-high boots with a pair of tights.

If you’re looking for extra arm coverage with your wrap dress, a denim jacket is a great choice for a casual look. A double-breasted blazer or a classic two-button blazer are also great options. Choose a trench coat for a rainy day. Try your leather jacket for a night out in the colder months.
