A friend of mine tells me that there are 50 ways to tie a scarf, but there are only a few types of scarves that I really like. Today I want to share with you some different and fun ways you can wear scarves! Because wearing them plain is a bit boring for me. Why not change it up a bit?

Wrap the scarf once around your neck like a classic ring. Then take the ends and wrap them around the ring one by one as loosely or tightly as you like.

Just take your scarf and fold it in half. Put it around your neck as if you were doing a classic Euro ring (#8). Fold where the scarf is folded and weave one end through the bottom of the loop and the other over the loop.

Loosely wrap the scarf around your neck once. Leave one end long and the other short. Take the long end and attach it to the part that is wrapped around your neck.

Tie the ends of the scarf together and wrap it around your neck twice, keeping the knot in the back.

Scarves are very different. They don’t judge you, they don’t magically gain pregnancy weight or a few pounds, and they tend to stick around.

But how to tie a scarf? That’s another story! We asked our friends for their favorite techniques and came up with 19 different necklace tying ideas for you to try. Just read through this post or check out the video at the end to learn how to hook each one up like a pro.

All you need is a large or rectangular scarf to create these 19 different looks. I used some of my favorite scarves in different sizes, but you only need one scarf to make most of these knots.

Obviously, a shorter scarf is better for basic necklaces and veils, while a longer scarf is best for more intricate knots. And heavy winter scarves, in my experience, are the best for a simple throw. But feel free to try each knot with a few different types of scarves to see how it looks.

Fold the scarf in half and put it around your neck. Take the loose ends of the necklace and pull them through the loop, making sure not to pull it too far. Now twist the loop and pull the loose ends again. Continue twisting the loop with one hand and continue to wrap the ends until you reach the end of your neck.

Place your scarf around your neck so that one end is much shorter than the other. Wrap the long end around your neck twice, then tuck in the loose ends. If using a scarf with a hem, adjust it so that a little of the hem hangs in the front.

It’s a classic because it’s so easy and looks so good! Fold the scarf in half. Place it behind the neck and bring both ends forward. Pull the loose ends through the loop.

Take a light scarf (silk is great for this!) and place it on the back of your neck. Tie a knot on one side and follow the other. Take the loose ends and tie them together. Turn the scarf around so that the ends are at the back and the knots are at the front.

The easiest way to wear a scarf! Just drape it over your shoulders and let it hang in front on either side.

I discovered this french twist last winter and still love it! Just fold the scarf in half and put it on your shoulder. Take one piece of the loose end and pull it over the loop of the necklace. Take the second end piece and pass it under the same loop.

Tie the scarf behind the neck. Take one end and wrap it in your hand. Pull it to make a loose knot. Take the other end and pull it through the side knot, under the loop of the knot and then up.

Take a small scarf and wrap it around your neck twice so that the ends meet at one shoulder. Tie the ends together once and throw one end behind while the other stays forward.

Fold the long scarf in half lengthwise. Take the diagonal ends and put them together. Put it around your neck, then twist it and loop it again.

Wrap the long scarf around your neck once. With the long ends, make a half knot near your neck. Pull the neck loop fabric down above the half knot.

Place the scarf evenly around your neck. Wrap one end of the scarf around your neck, then repeat with the other end (the ends should hang slightly over your chest). Fold the loose ends inside the scarf.

This is exactly like a plunging neckline (see #15), except you wrap the scarf before wrapping it around your neck. You can wrap it tightly to look like a necklace or leave it loose.

I love wearing this tie under a blazer or jacket because it resembles a men’s tie but with a feminine touch. Wrap the scarf around your neck so that the ends are in front. Cross the left side over the right side, then pass it through the back and through the opening around your neck. Take the bow on the right side, pull it to the left and push it up through the loop you made. Adjust the knot until it sits loosely like a men’s tie.

Put two of your favorite scarves back to back. Wrap it around your neck once and turn the fabric over so you can see both sides.

Wrap the scarf around your neck and cross one side to the other. Using your right hand, gather some of the scarf into a ring. Wrap the left side around the loop and slide it down through the hole, much like tying your shoes. Tighten the knot and turn the scarf so that the bow sits on your shoulder.

A slightly more advanced version of the wrapper. Wrap the scarf around your shoulders and make a half knot with the ends at the back. Raise the ends tightly and on your back. Pull the fabric down to cover the ends.

Wrap the scarf around your neck twice. Take one end up and down the neck loops and tie the ends together.

Bring the scarf around your neck. Tie once in the front and bring the ends up and over your shoulders. Tie a knot where they meet at the back.
