How To Wear Wide-leg Pants
Again, I know not everyone wants to wear wide-leg pants this fall. But wearing a contemporary silhouette of jeans and pants is the easiest way to look current and fresh. Be sure to check back if you missed Monday’s blog post. There I styled these Harlow wide-leg pants with a cinched button-up shirt and a close-fitting tee and an unbuttoned chambray shirt. And I wore sneakers with both of those outfits. But today I’m upping the ante a bit.
How To Style Wide Leg Pants For Work
I purchased this long sleeve tee in black and white back in the spring, but now it’s only available in navy and white or blue and white. A striped tee or sweater of any color or type will give your wide leg pants a modern vibe.
If you are contacting us, these wide leg pants are from Madewell and run a little large. I’m wearing the lower of my two usual sizes, a size standard 8. I suggest you use the True Fit size guide available at Madewell (and many other retailers) to find your best size; This usually works really well. Just enter the requested information and create an account if you don’t have one. Based on my size in other pants from other retailers, the guess that I would wear a size 8 is correct.
There is something very elevated about pulling a pullover sweater over your shoulders. And this little style hack is a great way to balance out the fullness of your wide leg pants. It just adds a little interest to the top of your outfit.

How To Style Wide Leg Pants
An outfit booking is always a great way to tie a look together. Here I am wearing black lug sole loafers from my closet. But these are a great alternative from Madewell.
I frequently receive questions about cardigans this time of year. Are they in or out? I don’t think cardigans are a style
Never go completely out of style. However, like all other categories of clothing, there are some that look more current than others.
The most popular type of cardigan this year is the loose-fitting button-up style with an open neckline. And I find that this style is also a little easier to wear because the neckline doesn’t come with collars and such.
How To Wear Wide Leg Pants & Look Chic
I got my cardigan (now only available in plus sizes) at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in July, so it’s no longer available. But this is the Vince cardigan and it’s the same style. And this one from Madewell has the exact same silhouette and is available in several great colors. It looks like a really nice option to me.
You don’t have to have a small waist to wear a belt with this outfit. Adding that belt helps define your waist and create flattering proportions. And wearing a cardigan over it will cure any stomach problems.
This year the trend is to coordinate your belt, handbag and/or shoes. That doesn’t mean they have to match perfectly, but when they’re in the same color family, it really enhances your outfit. I love cognac accessories like this fall.
Again, just like Monday, my last tip is to wear your wide leg casual pants with confidence and joy. Yes, they are a “new” silhouette and others in your circle may not be wearing them yet. But you can be the fashion forward of the group and go for it. They are comfortable and fun. Enjoy them!
