How To Wear Ruffles – I saw an ad a few weeks ago featuring this ruffle dress from the Who What Wear collection and knew I had to have it! The problem was that it was sold out online and I couldn’t find my size in any local stores. I guess there was a restock because my dreams came true!
I’m not going to lie. At first glance, I thought my dreams were killed. The ruffles looked a little too “Miss Muffet”, but I’ll tell you something: you can’t judge a piece of clothing by its hanger! Sometimes you have to take the extra few minutes and try something out, so that’s what I did. at 22:30. You’re probably wondering why I was in Target at the time. Yes. No idea here, but I wasn’t alone, and luckily, CJ was my advisory board when it came to the frilly dress.

TLG TIP: I definitely kept the frilly dress vibe going with the white heels, but honestly, you could easily change the tone of this dress with the right shoes and hairstyle. A Chic Way To Wear Ruffles
A women’s trend that I can’t seem to get enough of; ruffle. So instead of fighting it, I figured it was best to take a page from Alessandro Michele’s book and wear ruffles like a maximalist.
Don’t be afraid to wear color – especially if you live in a warmer climate (or you’re not in the middle of winter, like me here in Sydney!). I don’t often step out of my comfort zone, but when I do, lately my crop of choice has been orange or red. If it’s a bit too much for you, this top also comes in black – perfect for a minimalist wardrobe!
If you’re wearing a ruffled top like I am, try amping it up and pairing it with a ruffled skirt or a pair of ruffled hem pants (like this affordable pair!) to really amp up the trend. I’m making the most of this feminine silhouette with this beautiful architecturally pleated skirt from MSGM.
I usually like to keep things within a certain color palette – and although, to an extent, I’ve made an effort to throw in some playful touches. One of my favorite spring trends is ruffles. They are so feminine and add so much to a simple look. This pleated dress is a great example. There are so many ways to wear ruffles this season. We’ve all seen the big ruffled sleeves, which are fun, but not for everyone. Ruffles are everywhere. In the last year, they have been seen on pants, skirts and necklines on the shoulders. They are now appearing on shoes, purses and even summer swimwear. The biggest question for women our age is how to wear ruffles? For as long as I can remember, steering wheels have reminded me of my childhood. Not just the way mom dressed me, but my double bedspread, our kitchen curtains and grandma’s aprons. Am I too old to wear ruffles?

Now, if you want to try something nicer, then balance is the key. Women sometimes think they should avoid ruffles because they will add more volume, but that’s not necessarily true if you learn how to balance the look. For example, take a longer skirt with a frill at the bottom, when gathered at the waist it creates an hourglass shape. A-line dresses with long ruffles will flatter almost any body type. A ruffle can add volume to a smaller bust line if desired. This season I saw several swimsuits with pleats over the vest.
