Hydrating Skincare Staples – Oh my god, winter brings out dry skin for me. It hasn’t been that cold yet, but I can already feel the difference in my skin after the temperature has dropped. Skincare is something I’ve gotten more serious about in the last few years, and I’ve really enjoyed having it as part of my nightly routine (although since having a baby, it hasn’t been as consistent as I’d like). . But pre-baby I did it religiously and this post is all about my favorites and what I’ve been using lately to keep my skin hydrated for the winter.
Before I started my skincare obsession, I didn’t try very many new products. I stuck with what I knew worked for me and that was pretty much it. But after doing some research and seeing what others shared online, I was introduced to The Ordinary. If you haven’t added their products to your range, here’s your sign to do so. The Ordinary has amazing products at a fraction of the price compared to others on the market. I cannot recommend them enough.

The first product I ever used was the buffet and it was amazing. The other one I tried then is the Hyaluronic Acid 2% and I really like it and for $14.70 a 2oz bottle you literally add to the cart. The prices are incredibly affordable and definitely work too.
Are Seasonal Skincare Routines Necessary?
Natural Moisturizing Factors Face Cream gets two thumbs up in my books. It’s non-greasy, spreads easily, and costs $11.50 for a 3oz tube. Again, if you’ve seen my other beauty posts, you’d know that I’m new to the deep moisturizing face cream and won’t be trying anything new. However, the price is just pretty for the smaller size of the jar, so I tried the natural moisturizer and it was amazing. Left my face feeling super hydrated after each use. Highly recommend for an affordable face cream.
One product that I use year round is the Origins Drink Up Intensive Mask. If you’ve seen my spring skincare post, you’d recognize it because it’s been a favorite of mine for years. It’s an overnight mask that’s so thick and hydrating that when I wash it off in the morning, my face feels so plump and hydrated. A little goes a long way with this too. I don’t really use much so it lasts quite a while.
We can not forget about under the eyes! Eye creams are pretty new to me, but I have this little guy, Bye Bye Undereye, and I’m shocked and excited at the same time. You don’t need very much and I’m surprised at how well it works. My under eyes always look brighter and more alive in the mornings after using. Highly recommend this one! It’s not currently available at Sephora, but if you see it elsewhere, get it.
I picked up the Caudalie Instant Detox Mask on a whim and I can say that it has become a favorite. It feels like it’s really exfoliating my face, but the skin doesn’t feel like skin after removal. Who doesn’t love a good skin detox, but one that doesn’t damage the skin. I am definitely happy I purchased this and will be repurchasing once I do for sure.
Hydrating Face Toner
Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 is one of my absolute favorite products. It’s a toner that doesn’t strip the oil from my skin, but manages to remove all the dirt and grime of the day. Seriously, I can wash my face twice and then remove the cotton pad and STILL remove the dirt. It’s unreal and I’ll never be caught without this guy. I buy the purple one which is for dry to combination skin so I know it won’t hurt after using it. If there is one product you try from this entire post, make it this one. Also, a little something – if I’m super lazy at night and don’t feel like doing all of my normal skincare routine, I double cleanse with this guy and I’m good to go. Never disappoints.
So that’s my winter skin care of my absolute staples! These products have gotten me through some cold winter months and I have not been disappointed. Have you ever used any of these before? So you’ve crashed. The good news is that there’s never been a better time to buy affordable skin care products that don’t skimp on results. Good to know even if you’re not broke.
A couple of days ago I was out with a friend. She needed something from the pharmacy, and I ventured to look for the specials. She asked me if I needed anything. I did not. It’s a broken thing – sucks, but in many ways it was a great opportunity.
When it comes to skincare, what used to take me ten or twelve steps now requires three or four for a fraction of the money. And it also saves my time. And believe it or not, it makes my face look better, not worse. And even though my girlfriend probably makes three times more than I do, she hung on my every word.
Hydrating Skincare Set For Dry Skin
If you’re short on cash, active ingredients are the name of the game. In fact, that’s the name of the game when it comes to skin care, period. It’s just that when you’re broke, you don’t have the money to spend on something that smells nice or comes in pretty bottles.
I was a journalist for five years. There was little money. It was a family business. I jumped on board. It was a mistake. I write about this struggle and more. One of my go-to skincare brands is having a sale for friends and family, and I’m excited to share an early access code with you a few days early! Kiehl’s is offering 25% off sitewide this week through 3/24 with code EARLY25 (public sale starts 3/25). I’ve partnered with them to go into more detail about a few skincare essentials I’ve been adding to my routine.
The Ultra Face Cream is one of their classic skincare staples. This is a light cream that is suitable for all skin types (even my sensitive skin). It absorbs well and never feels heavy. It contains glacial glycoprotein to hydrate and prevent skin water loss and squalane to strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier. The formula works well with serums and sunscreens. I especially like that it has no scent or scent. (Full ingredient list on product page.)
A new discovery for me is the Ultra Facial Cleanser. Out of all the skincare products out there, I love testing cleansers! It’s a really good foaming cleanser that’s gentle, effective, but doesn’t strip the skin. It contains squalane, apricot kernels and avocado oil. I really like this one because it cleans the skin well without tightening it. Available in two sizes including 2.5oz ($12) and 5.0oz ($22).

This cactus thrives in dry conditions, making it the perfect ingredient to soothe and nourish your skin.
We highlight all the skin care benefits of Prickly Pear – also known as Prickly Pear or Barbary Fig. Prickly pear is a fat, pear-shaped fruit that grows on a rowan cactus in desert climates.
Prickly pear fruits are usually dark purple in color (although sometimes red), themselves covered with thorns, but the fleshy interior is rich in fiber, antioxidants and carotenoids. It has even been made into edible jams and tastes like a mixture of strawberries and raspberries.
Top 10 Back To Basics Skincare Staples
Apart from being an edible fruit, prickly pear is harvested for topical skin care. This is usually an extracted oil that is then made into a soothing, moisturizing face oil or cream. Let’s dive into the details!
“Prickly Pear Cactus Facial Oil Can Help Fight Free Radicals. They’re responsible for breaking down the collagen in your skin, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and blemishes,” says Heather Nicole, a celebrity esthetician in Los Angeles. “Prickly pear is also extremely moisturizing, has antibacterial properties and is rich in omega fatty acids and vitamin E.”
Interestingly, prickly pear contains one of the highest percentages of unsaturated fatty acids compared to other skin care oils. This makes it an incredibly powerful oil for skin health. In particular, the high content of linoleic acid makes it a “dry oil”, which means that your skin happily absorbs it without leaving any greasy film. (In contrast, coconut oil is not a dry oil and will settle
